NEW! Keeping Children Safe Online

Psst.... Got an extra $250,000?

You'd better, if you plan to download and/or share any copyrighted material from the internet!

Internet Piracy is illegal downloading of copyrighted material and it is a crime.

It is not a victimless crime.

It is not harmless fun.

It is serious business.

Downloading, uploading, and/or distributing illegally acquired movies, music, software, or literature is theft. This includes so-called file sharing.

A person is not anonymous on the internet. There are many very sophisticated methods possible to track down internet users who are suspected of piracy. Just to make it clear: if you steal copyrighted material, you will be found and prosecuted.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Secret Service investigate all incidents of piracy.

Wigi Wireless is required by law to fully cooperate with any investigation of suspected piracy.

A person convicted of piracy can and will face three years in prison and a fine of at least $250,000.

A person convicted of piracy is a convicted felon, with a permanent criminal record that will follow them for the rest of their life.

Is it worth ruining your life just to save a few bucks instead of going to a movie or purchasing a legal CD, DVD or game?

If you receive an email purporting to be from "Webmail HelpDesk" asking you to "Update your account"- please be aware that it is fraudulent!

This email is a phishing scheme attempting to get your account information.

Wigi Wireless will NEVER
ask you to update your account or supply information in this manner.

It's a good rule to NEVER give out any details about yourself
or any account in response to an email, especially an unsolicited one.

Phishing is defined as sending an e-mail falsely claiming to be from an established legitimate enterprise, such as a well-known bank or Wigi Wireless, in an attempt to scam you into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft. The e-mail may direct you to "update your information", download a form to fill out, or visit a web site where you will be asked to fill in personal information, such as passwords, credit card, social security, and/or bank account numbers. This is information that a legitimate organization either already has, should have, or does not need to have.

The email may state that "we" need you to re-enter your account information. It may even threaten you with the loss of your account if you don't respond. This is totally bogus.

The term "phishing" came to be because they are "fishing" for information and hoping you'll bite. DON'T BITE!

How to Tell if it's a Fraudulent Email

The best rule is: if you have any concern at all about it, call the place that this email is supposedly from. You can call us at WigiWireless any time you receive something like this. You can call us anytime if you have any doubts or concerns about any email you receive.

Another thing to be suspicious about is what they are asking of you. As an example, ask yourself "WHY would my wireless company need my date of birth and my social security number?" The answer, of course, is: We don't. We simply don't!

Admittedly, some of these emails and phony web pages are pretty good. They'll have good graphics. (Anyone can steal graphics off the web!) But these things usually give themselves away with poor spelling or bad grammar. This is the text of one that has been received recently by a Wigi customer*...
